Stories of Pain

J. Scott Smith

We, dear friend, share stories of pain.
We recall loves long since drifted out of reach.
We remember hopes and dreams now dead in our hearts.
We reminisce and the past becomes at once both more and less to us.

I talk of love won and lost, of happiness come and gone.
I prattle on about having had beauty within my grasp.
I babble about opportunities that appeared, then vanished.
I purge my inner pain with fancy stories of emotional things.

You speak of fists.
