Beyond the Veil

J. Scott Smith

To see, but not behold, until the curtain opens and the veil is raised
This is the curse of life, for those we love and would seek to know
Are hidden from us, never mind how closely we examine
Their life a shrouded mystery until exposed and bare they deem it laid

There's a friend I know whose truths I've unearthed by chance and by observation
Yet for all that I've learned and know, I've learned mostly it shows
How little I know and how much there's to learn if ever
I hope to venture beyond the veil and know the extent of this person
