In Younger Days

J. Scott Smith

In younger days, affairs of the heart
Are times of turmoil and strife
When confusion reigns and passions flame
And cloud the meaning of life

In younger days, the heart can be found
Nearer to beauty than love
And friends are chosen from those that fit
The crowd like the hand fits glove

In younger days, the heart is concerned
Not with the truth or with fact
Only with how the players are seen
In reviews after the act

In younger days, the love in the heart
Is felt for only the one
In whom it resides and none remains
For those outside of the one

In younger days, affairs of the heart
Were times of turmoil and strife
But older days are upon me now
And I before you do humbly bow
Requesting that you for life
Will covenant alway with mine your heart
And consent to be my wife
